How was your day?

Updated: Mar 16, 2022

Usually toward dinner time ask my spouse or my spouse asks me how was your day? we take turns sharing about a few of the people we met with or interesting conversations that transpired.  Tonight I was sharing that it was a busy day.  I interacted with our adoptive daughter’s birth parent, then transitioned to making breakfast for our latest foster placement.  The child arrived last night. While checking my phone, I realized I had missed a call from a social worker who was calling to confirm an appointment for our new guest.  I then had conversations with two current foster/adoptive parents who were each headed to advocate on behalf of children in care.  My favorite part of the day was a video call with a former foster child who had lived in our home for 8 months.  She has grown into an incredible woman who continues to have a heart to advocate for others.  We revisited our time together and talked about what we both learned from the journey.  Tonight, I wait for a new foster child to walk through the doors.  I have noodles and CocoMelon ready to ease the transition.  All in all it has been a great day.  I will spare you the spilled milk, and missed toilet sagas.  I am sure that many of you have had similar days and it is super helpful to just process the significant and not so significant moments.  Foster parents, relative caregivers, kinship providers self-care is not selfish.  If you need someone to process the journey along side of you, we are here to help.
